These pieces where created for an exhibit called a Seat at the Table: an exploration of food security. This is the grid of farmland around Mortlach Saskatchewan where my grandparents lived and where my father was born. They are a reminder of how the land was divided into a grid despite the natural features and variations which defied such rigid definitions. They are a reminder of how farms were once this small and fed each family. They are a reminder of how, before European settlers, this land wasn’t owned or farmed for profit, but still succeeded in feeding the people and animals that lived there.
